The town of Bracebridge is located in what is known geographically as Muskoka. The Muskoka area in Ontario is the geographical boundary where the Canadian shield starts—a rock exposed landscape resulting from the last glaciation period. The receding glaciers created literally thousands of lakes which is why Muskoka country is revered as North America’s premier cottage destination. The Muskoka region is the most heavily populated cottage area in the world and destination for both Hollywood celebrities and those wishing to escape the hot, humid summers of Toronto. The area is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for hiking, canoeing, and camping. There can be mosquitoes and black flies in the spring, so bring some bug spray.
